Coronavirus (Covid-19)

In line with government guidance and requirements for re-opening, we have been working hard to ensure compliance and are happy to confirm that we are Covid-19 Secure.

It is very important to us that we do everything possible to protect the safety of our staff and customers. We have risk assessed and developed new and improved ways of working to make sure that we can still do our jobs but in an adapted way that ensures we are doing all we can to prevent the spread of Covid-19. We’re working with our staff and keeping these new measures up to date. Please read the points below to familiarise yourself with the changes you’ll notice when you visit us.

We are asking all visitors, staff and guests not to come to our premises if they have any of the following symptoms: a high temperature, a new continuous cough, a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste

When booking a table and arriving at The Talbot:

  • We are operating a bookings only system to ensure that we can control and stagger arrivals and traffic through the premises – please arrive on time to help us manage our bookings
  • We have reduced capacity to help manage social distancing – your table will be reserved for 1 hour and 45 minutes unless agreed otherwise. This allows us to clear and safely prepare your table for the next guests
  • We will only accept bookings that do not exceed 6 people unless two households, in line with government requirements. We’re sorry but split-table bookings will not be accepted
  • All staff and customers will be temperature checked on entry to the premises
  • By law, customers are required to wear a face covering when not seated at their table, unless exempt
  • Please wait to be seated when you arrive and please do not lean across the bar
  • We are encouraging entry to the premises through the front door and exit through the rear door where possible
  • We will encourage that you use the NHS Test and Trace app to check in to our venue where possible, but are happy to manually take your details if you don’t have a smartphone. All guests over 16 are required by law to check in or leave contact details with our staff. Any guest who refuses to do so will be turned away

Social distancing:

  • We have checked that our tables are in line with government recommendations for maintaining social distancing: “2m, or 1m with risk mitigation where 2m is not viable). Our tables are distanced accordingly to allow space between households where required
  • While taking orders we will maintain a distance of 1m plus
  • All of our staff wear face coverings in line with government requirements
  • We’re managing the use of staircases and corridors to help maintain social distancing
  • We are reducing serving time at your table, so we’ll be laying your table prior to seating you. We’ll also open your wine for you but leave you to serve it, to avoid getting too close
  • Bars will be closed for direct service; instead we’ll be offering table service and clearing glasses throughout the evening
  • We are asking that you remain at your table as much as possible; please do no stop to talk to other guests and please keep children supervised and seated
  • We’ll be bringing your bill to the table and taking payment there so there’s no need to come to the bar- both bars will be closed for direct service

Cleaning, hand washing, hygiene and general housekeeping:

  • We are providing our staff with rapid testing with the aim of limiting the spread of the virus where there are no symptoms
  • We are limiting bookings to a 1 hour 45 minutes sitting to enable us to have adequate time to clean and sanitise tables and chairs in between
  • Frequent sanitising of common touch points
  • Menus, dessert lists and wine lists will be sanitised after each use
  • Additional signage around our premises to help remind you about handwashing and social distancing
  • Hand-sanitiser points on entry and outside the toilets
  • Staff will be washing their hands between all tasks. This may mean things take a little bit longer, but we’re sure you’ll agree it’s worth it
  • We are suspending use of our cloakroom to avoid guest’s coats hanging together
  • Doors will be propped open where possible to avoid unnecessary contact with door handles
  • Doors and windows will be open as much as possible to ensure adequate ventilation
  • Encouraging the use of card, contactless and Apple Pay and sanitising the card machine between uses
  • You’ll notice our music will be lower than usual to minimise the need to shout
  • We also will be unable to sing happy birthday for a while, but we’ll still be on hand to make your occasion special

Staying with us:

  • We will ask you to complete your check-in form in advance of your stay via email to minimise the check in process
  • We will temperature check you on entry to the premises
  • You will need to wear a face covering in public areas, unless exempt
  • There will be a hand-sanitiser point for your use in reception
  • You will notice additional signage in the hotel to prompt good handwashing practice
  • As well as our normal high standards of cleanliness, there will be increased surface cleaning of common touchpoints for your safety
  • As we are only a small hotel, there is a reduced risk of high traffic through the corridors and on stairs, but we ask that you maintain social distancing throughout
  • Once a guest checks out, their room will be thoroughly cleaned and aired as normal and not reused for 48 hours
  • All keys will be sanitised between guests
